Best Automatic Ironing Machines in 2026: Our Comparison and Buying Guide
22 October 2026 · 9 min read
Standheld wrote this comparison and sells one of the machines in it. Details of other brands come from their own websites and from retailers, checked on 22 October 2026. Prices and specifications change, so check them before you buy. This is not an independent test.
Key takeaways
- Most automatic ironing machines work the same way: a damp garment on an inflatable form, warm air from the inside, about 8 to 12 minutes per shirt.
- The real differences are what is in the box (trouser attachment, shoe drying, clips, atomiser), the shape and size range of the form, the controls, the guarantee and where the brand delivers.
- Best complete set for shirts, trousers and shoes: Standheld Complete Set, £159.90 with free UK delivery and a 30-day guarantee.
- Cheapest way to try the idea: a simple hanger-style shirt ironer such as the Clatronic HBB 3734 or Klarstein ShirtButler Deluxe (around €60–€70 in Germany and Austria).
- Highest power on paper: CLEANmaxx Hemdenbügler PRO at 1800 W, sold mainly in Germany.
Search for the best automatic ironing machine and you will find a dozen brands that look almost identical in their adverts. Some are new names sold online, others are high-street appliance brands that have made shirt ironers for years. We sell one of them, so we have tried to be useful rather than neutral: below is exactly how we compared them, the facts we found on each brand's own pages, and which machine we would pick for each kind of household.
How we compared them
We looked at the things that change what you get for your money, using each brand's website or a large retailer, checked on 22 October 2026:
- What is in the box for shirts, trousers and shoes, and what costs extra.
- The form: a shirt-shaped form with sleeves and size adjustment, or a simple balloon on a hanger.
- Power and cycle time as the brand states them.
- Controls: temperature settings and how the timer works.
- Guarantee, returns and delivery to the UK.
This is not a laboratory test or an independent test, and nobody paid to be included. Ratings from review sites are left out on purpose: they are counted differently on every site, and comparing them side by side would not be fair.

1. Standheld Complete Set: our pick for shirts, trousers and shoes
Our machine uses a shirt-shaped form with inflatable sleeves. Side zips and telescopic rods adjust it up to 3XL, so it fits a slim work shirt and a loose casual one. You choose the temperature (cool, 50, 60 or 70 °C) and the time on a touch panel; a shirt typically takes 8 to 12 minutes. It switches off when the time is up, and also if it tips over or overheats.
The reason we put it first is the set. For £159.90 the Complete Set includes the trouser attachment and the shoe-drying stand, plus the Standheld Hem Anchors that hold the hem in place and the Standheld Atomiser for shirts that have already dried. Elsewhere, the same pieces often come in a bigger bundle or as add-ons. Delivery in the UK is free and takes 3 to 10 working days, and you have 30 days from delivery to decide.
What it does not do: it smooths fabric rather than pressing sharp lines, so if you like a crisp crease down a trouser leg or a hard-pressed collar, you may still reach for the iron for those details.
2. Aironox Home: the closest alternative
Aironox sells the Home model in three bundles: Starter Core at $159.99 (machine and shirt attachment), Everyday at $179.99 (adds trousers and shoes) and Complete at $199.99 (every attachment). It lists 1400 W and 8 to 12 minutes for most garments. Weighted clips are sold separately, and the guarantee is described as 30 days in one place and 60 days "where your order includes it" in another, so check your bundle. Aironox also makes a travel version, the Aironox GO.
3. Scanovus 4.0: similar machine, shoe stand included
Scanovus's European product page describes a 340 × 248 × 355 mm, 3.8 kg base with the same four temperatures (cool, 50, 60, 70 °C), a shirt form to 3XL with side zips, an included shoe-drying stand and 8 to 12 minutes per garment. It lists 1400 W on the European page and 1200 W on the 110–120 V US version, where it costs $220. The atomiser and a dress function are extras. A trouser attachment is not specified in the box.
4. Lissaire 2.0: the longest return window
Lissaire lists 1250 W and quotes 10 to 20 minutes per shirt, with a timer up to 60 minutes. The Solo Press set has the shirt attachment only; the Wardrobe Press set adds trouser and shoe attachments, 4 weighted clips and 4 laundry clips. Its 60-day satisfaction guarantee is the longest here, but the buyer pays return postage and the refund can be up to 25% lower if the original box is missing.
5. CLEANmaxx Hemdenbügler PRO: most power on paper
A well-known German "Bügelpuppe": 1800 W, a trouser attachment and five weight clips, around €94.99 at German retailers. It uses a balloon on a hanger with a collar piece rather than a shirt form with sleeves, and no shoe drying is listed. Good value if you live in Germany; harder to buy in the UK.
6. Klarstein ShirtButler Deluxe and Clatronic HBB 3734: the budget picks
Both are simple balloon-on-a-pole shirt ironers. The Klarstein lists 1250 W, a trouser balloon and four clips, from €68.99 in Germany (€103.99 at Boulanger in France). The German magazine heise measured it at 52 dB(A) and criticised its timer, which moves in 30-minute steps. The Clatronic lists 1200 W, a universal trouser attachment and a timer up to 180 minutes, at €59.99 in Austria. Neither lists shoe drying or a shirt form with sleeves. If you want to try the idea for the least money, these are the obvious place to start.
What about Bellairon and the Amazon listings?
Bellairon is a Florida company selling a 1250 W machine at $189 with a trouser accessory, a shoe and hat accessory and a 1-year warranty. Its FAQ says it is available in the United States, Canada and Mexico, so it is not an option for UK homes for now.
On Amazon, many listings borrow other brands' names in their titles. One listing we saw was titled "Aironox Automatic Ironing Machine, scanovuss portable steam iron". Before buying from a listing like that, check who the seller is, which plug and voltage you get, and who handles a return.
Which one should you buy?
- You iron shirts most days, plus trousers, and want to dry trainers after a wet run: Standheld Complete Set.
- Shirts only: the Standheld Shirt Set at £129.90, or a budget balloon model if you iron rarely.
- You live in Germany or Austria and want the most power for the price: CLEANmaxx PRO.
- You travel a lot: look at a travel model such as the Aironox GO.
Whatever you choose, read how the form adjusts, check what is included, and keep the box until the return window closes. For the details that matter in daily use, read our honest answers on collars, cuffs, noise and cotton.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best automatic ironing machine in 2026?
It depends on what you iron. For shirts, trousers and shoes on one machine with everything included, our pick is the Standheld Complete Set. If you only want to smooth the odd shirt and do not mind a simple balloon on a hanger, a budget model from Clatronic or Klarstein costs less.
Is more power (watts) always better?
No. The listed power covers the fan and the heater together, and the heater switches on and off to hold the temperature you choose. Most brands rated 1200 W to 1400 W quote around 8 to 12 minutes for a shirt (Lissaire quotes 10 to 20). How damp the shirt is and how thick the fabric is matter more.
Do automatic ironing machines work on trousers?
Yes, with a trouser attachment: the trousers go on upside down and warm air fills the legs. Check whether the attachment is included. Standheld includes it in the Complete Set; some brands sell it separately or only in their larger bundles.
Can an automatic ironing machine dry shoes?
Some can, with a stand that holds a pair of shoes in the warm air. It dries them; it does not iron them. The Standheld Complete Set includes a shoe-drying stand. Most hanger-style shirt ironers from high-street brands do not list one.
Is it worth buying instead of an iron?
If you wear shirts most days, the time adds up: around 7 minutes of ironing per shirt becomes about a minute of set-up. Our savings calculator works it out with your own numbers.
